Raúl Braulio Martínez
Director, Art and Production

A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Martínez has 15 years of experience in newspaper and magazine design. Before joining Meximerica, he was VP Operations at Editorial Televisa, the largest Spanish magazine publisher in the world. He was overseeing art design and production for more than 40 magazines distributed in 19 countries in Latin America.

In 1998 in Madrid, Martínez headed the redesign of ABC newspaper, working for Prensa Española and Innovation, a design consulting firm. During this process, he also restructured the graphic area and participated in the redesign of the newspaper supplements and weekly magazines.

In 1988, he was the Art Director for the Monterrey newspaper, El Norte, part of Grupo Reforma. He also participated in the redesign of El Norte, El Metro and El Sol. At El Norte, Martínez was responsible for the design, photography and illustration departments composed of 135 people. In 1990, he implemented the concept of deputy art director position, decentralizing the design team and assigning designers by section. Due to this implementation, El Norte became a leader in design and was followed by other newspapers in Mexico.

In 1993, he participated in the launching of Reforma in Mexico City, in which Martínez was responsible for recruiting and training of the design team. In 1997 and 1998, he played the same role at Palabra, a newspaper in Saltillo and at Mural, a newspaper in Guadalajara, respectively.

Martínez was a professor at the Universidad de Monterrey and the Universidad de Diseño CEDIM in Monterrey from 1988 to 1993. He has received more than 70 awards from the Society of Newspaper Design.
